Gradiant and the University of Vigo enter their face recognition system in an international contest

Preliminary results point at the victory of the Galician team, ahead of other 18 systems developed by researchers from all Europe. The decision will be announced in the International Conference on Biometrics (ICB) 2009 that will be held in Alghero, Sardinia (Italy).

The Biometric Identification Group comprising Daniel González Jiménez (Gradiant) and José Luis Alba, Enrique Argones, Elisardo González and Carmen García (Multimedia Technologies Group, University of Vigo), has entered third time around in an automatic face recognition contest with a system whose core is similar to that used for granting access to Gradiant’s facilities. Their participation in this kind of public competitions started within the Biosecure Network of Excellence (VI Framework Programme).

Two of two The University of Vigo participates in these competitions since 2005, when the submitted algorithm ranked first among 8 participants in an event held in Paris. In 2007, the team repeats its previous success obtaining first and second positions among 9 systems in Friburg (Switzerland). Now, in 2009, they hope to repeat a well-deserved victory.
