Art, a technological game

People said the first creative activity of humankind was the creation of games, a bridge between learning and cognitive development. Game and interaction are linked with technology to create new forms of expression aimed to audience increasingly accustomed to new devices. Contemporary art collects new technologies to create an innovative current  in classical art galleries as well as inside the new space of world expression, internet.


Art is able to connect different worlds, for example, Sharing Faces Project, led by american Kyle McDonald, has achieved a collaboration between two teams, the APAP ( Anyang Public Art Project, Korea) and YCAM ( Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media, Japan) , from two countries with an unresolved complex history..


But, what is Sharing Faces? A system, through information acquired from a camera analyzes expression, position and  the pose of surprised users faces and stores it. When new people enters the exhibition, they can see a picture of previous visitors on the screen showing great empathy with their expression and pose. This application gives user the impression that visitors are interacting with a group of people who are imitating them beyond the “mirror”. Two teams of two cities, sharing photos across the sea, searching to connect people and allowing audience to enter the connected world through a mirror.


This project is one of many examples of technology that are quite present on different areas on our society. At Gradiant we have several technologies on multimedia interaction field. We can connect objects (IoT, Internet of things), adding a new dimension to what we observe (augmented reality), or knowing who you are and how you feel through audio and video processing. In our center we have experience creating interactive applications and technological expression in several events, with an excellent reception.
