Helena Fernández López
Helena Fernández López (born in 1965 at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). Helena received the Electrical Engineering degree from Rio de Janeiro State University in 1988, the M.Sc. degree from Rio de Janeiro Federal University in 2005, and the Ph.D. degree from University of Minho, under the MIT-Portugal Programme, in 2011. She served the Brazilian Navy, as an officer, for fourteen years where she worked in maintenance and project management related to Electronic Warfare and C4I systems. She moved to Portugal in 2005, where she worked as an electronics and informatics instructor, as a project developer and, finally, as a researcher fellow at University of Minho. She developed part of her PhD work at the Engineering Systems Division of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and at the Portuguese company Critical Health.
Helena has been working for GRADIANT, Galician R&D Center in Advanced Telecommunications, Vigo, Spain, since April 2012 within the framework of the FP7 project LIFTGATE. Her main research activities were in eHealth and Ambient Assisted Living. In July 2013, she was appointed as Technical Director of GRADIANT’s eHealth Research Area. She is a member of the Spanish Society of Health Informatics.
