Daniel González Jiménez
Daniel González-Jiménez was born in Vigo the 12th of January of 1980. He received the MSc and PhD (European mention) degrees in Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Vigo in 2003 and 2008 respectively. His lines of research include image processing, pattern recognition, human-computer interfaces and artificial intelligence, focusing on face processing in static and video recordings, and, more specifically, face-based biometric identification, main subject of his Doctoral Thesis. During his postgraduate studies, Daniel stayed on different European research centers: ENST (Paris), CWI (Amsterdam) and Computer Vision Lab. (Alghero, Italy), and participated on several national and international projects, such as the BioSecure Network of Excellence (VI Framework Programme). During BioSecure’s life, two face recognition competitions were carried out, ranking the submitted algorithms first in both of them. Moreover, Daniel was responsible of the organization of the BioSecure’s Project Workshop, held in Vigo in September 2006.
Daniel is author of many journal and international conference papers, one of them being finalist in the Best Student Paper Award (IEEE International Conference on Image Processing ICIP 2005). Moreover, Daniel has co-authored two book chapters in face recognition, and in 2009 he received the COETG/AETG award for the best doctoral thesis applied to the ICT sector.
