ONDADA (research and development for AIS extension) is a project co-funded by  FEDER  through the Innterconecta  program, which was approved and kicked off in 2012. AIS (Automatic Identification System) allows ships exchange basic information such as speed and position with other ships and shore stations. The main objective in ONDADA is to increase the coverage of this service in order that more vessels could use it. IMO requires AIS to be fitted aboard ships with large gross tonnage since 2004 and it will be also mandatory for small boats in the coming years.

ONDADA consortium comprises different leader companies in Galician and national telecommunication sector with experience in equipment development (Egatel), telecommunication systems (Retevisión), AIS management (Activo Comunicaciones) and sea oriented devices (SCIO). Gradiant is the R&D center of the project.
